Rosenlaui Glacier

14:00, 04.08.24

The Swiss Alphorn Trio is a group of three musicians whose performances blend the traditional and the unconventional, the classical and the contemporary. They are categorically Swiss yet wholeheartedly international. The trio consists of Dominik Ziörjen (trumpet and alphorn), Severin Zoll (anything that has to do with the horn: the French horn, hunting horn, alphorn – and even the watering can), and Jan Müller (euphonium and alphorn). As virtuoso professional musicians, they have won numerous prizes and awards and are in high demand as both soloists and teachers. Together, they have given the alphorn a new lease on life, inventing a contemporary style and approach while staying true to the roots of an instrument that, while not originating solely in Switzerland, is unmistakably Swiss in its identity. Their wide-ranging repertoire – spanning everything from baroque to blues – adds a touch of youthfulness and impertinence to this traditional horn, from which they produce fresh, vibrant tones. The romantic landscape of the Rosenlaui Glacier is sure to inspire some interesting and original sounds.

Dominik Ziörjen (b. 1989), Severin Zoll (b. 1986) and Jan Müller (b. 1986) formed the Swiss Alphorn Trio while studying together at Bern University of the Arts. They each hold one or more master’s degrees in music. They also play as soloists with classical orchestras, teach their instruments, and perform in Switzerland and around the world.
