Exhibition
The forecourt of the Château de Gruyères, one of Fribourg Canton’s most
prominent tourist attractions, hosts a series of 30 works by Vaud-based artist Maya Rochat. Each piece is the product of the artist’s fascination with the living world, capturing its ever-changing state in all its fluidity – as if the melting glaciers had always been the inspiration for her work. Rochat’s “psychedelic” images embody both the vitality and poetry of nature, serving to open our eyes to the sheer beauty of the shapes and colours that permeate our environment.
Maya Rochat (b. 1985) is a graduate of ECAL University of Arts and Design,
Lausanne, and HEAD – Genève. Her work has been shown at leading museums and galleries including the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris (2023); Victoria Hall, Geneva (2023); the KKL Luzern Concert Hall (2022); the Musée Jenisch Vevey (2022); the FOAM photography museum, Amsterdam (2021); Tate Modern, London (2017); Les Abattoirs, Toulouse (2017); Kunsthaus Langenthal (2017); the Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2016); the Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève (2015); and the Fotomuseum Winterthur (2012).
