Exposition
Every two years, an international outdoor exhibition with a changing focus on the latest trends in Land and Environmental Art takes place in the Safiental (Grisons, Switzerland). After New Land Art (2016), Horizontal – Vertical (2018), Analog – Digital (2020), and Learning from the Earth (2022). The theme for 2024 is: What if? Songs from Tomorrowlands.
In former times, glacial landscapes were places of local culture and mythological relationships, which also held memories of explorers and travellers. In the eighteenth century the universal scientific term “glacier” was coined for bodies of moving ice. Today our scientific “knowledge” is still limited, even as they disappear in the climate crisis. The research work is presented within sight of the waterfall, above which the last piece of glacier in the Safiental valley still rests, preserved under a cone of rubble. (JH)
